How to design LED lighting for the bathroom
How many
times have we approached the bathroom mirror feeling a certain discomfort for
the reflected light? This is just one of the many eventualities linked to a bad
design of LED lighting (and not) for the bathroom. Together with the mirror, we
must consider the humidity of the air, which after a hot shower can approach
100%, forcing us to select lamps with a high IP rating (two digit number, the
second of which indicates the protection level of the appliance from water).
Further considerations concern the position of windows and skylights and
therefore the possibility of playing or not with natural light. For a design in
a workmanlike manner it is necessary to study the size, orientation and
characteristics of the bathroom, Nowadays, the companies' proposals are truly
endless and anyone with a minimum of resourcefulness, creativity and
imagination can indulge themselves and achieve surprising results, sometimes
without even needing mural interventions on the bathroom. Very valid are the
latest generation wall lamps, see the Kioo LED model in painted aluminum with
wrinkle effect and polyethylene diffuser or the Skinny wall lamp in the shape
of a shelf, excellent to place above the mirror. As for the LED ceiling lamps,
we highlight the original Hula Hoopin the Blue-Yellow-Chrome-White and
Red-Orange-Chrome-White versions, or, on the contrary, the rational and
geometric Next ceiling LED ceiling light, a futuristic lamp with four slits
from which light flows like in the canvases of Lucio Fontana.
If the
modern style mainly uses lamps, ceiling lights and wall lamps, the contemporary
bathroom can only be illuminated by LED strips and spotlights. The high
brightness and efficiency LED strips are perfect for highlighting the edges of
the shelves or the floor, but also for more intriguing light effects on the
shower cubicle and the bathtub. The recessed LED spotlights instead help to
enhance elements of certain importance such as a piece of furniture, a plant
or sculpture. Finally, let's not forget the contribution that devices can
make to modulate the intensity of light (the so-called dimming drivers): some
lamps have included them, for others compatible devices must be purchased separately.
